So we are well into the swing of the third lockdown now. During the first lockdown, I was at a loss about what to do food & fitness-wise. So I decided to research and trial and error what works for me.
It took me till August 2020 to find out what worked for me. I have been doing that routine ever since. Here are a few things that have helped me lose nearly 40lbs since I started my journey.
How to keep fit in Lockdown
Walking – This has to be one of my favourite workouts because it’s easy for me to do and it’s a great way to get some fresh air. I like to change where I walk now and again to keep the walking workout fresh. For me personally, an hour and a half is just the perfect amount of time.
Keep track of foods of calorie apps– I like to know what I am eating on calorie apps. It’s a great way to know if you eating the right amount of protein, carbs and fats. Everyone is different when it comes to these apps so it’s best working out what works for you.
My favourite app has to be NutraCheck. This app breaks down all the foods and drinks I have in my diet so I know what benefits I am getting. MyFitnesspal is also a good free app.
Meal Prep- I know this isn’t always possible but it sure helps out having meals ready when you are feeling hungry. When I have the chance I like to plan out meals for 3 days. That way I can grab them whenever I am hungry.
I bought myself some boxes so I can store my meals over a few days. My tips would be write the date on them so you know how fresh they are.
Get a good nights sleep – I find that having a good nights sleep helps the day so much smoother. I know it can be hard getting that routine but it helps to sleep around 8 hours.
Check out my post on helpful tips to get a good nights sleep here.
Home workouts – They is so many things you can do at home. I like to sometimes do 10,000 steps in my home, which isn’t hard when your a mum of 3 running around LOL! I also have some weights and a yoga mat so I can do workouts whenever I get a spare half hour.
Youtube is also a treasure trove of fitness videos including channels like PopSugar and joe wicks.
Drink plenty of water – I must admit I didn’t drink enough in the past and damn I felt it. I now track how much I drink during the day.
A helpful way to do this is use an app or buy a big water bottle to drink throughout the day.
Learn to make some new recipes – I know how to cook a few meals but when it comes to healthier choices I am big of a novice. Over the lockdown, I have looked online for healthier recipes to make in my meal preps.
Youtube has some wonderful choices to choose from or if you like me and like cookbooks, amazon has hundreds to choose from.
Thankfully the end is in site of this lockdown. But all these things are wonderful ways to keep fit. I am excited for travelling for hikes and even going back to the gym
Until next time
