We are well into 2021 now but lets take a little look back to 2020.
2020 has to be one of the most trying years not just for Scotland but most of the world. I have not seen my family in over a year now and on top of that my routine has been completely changed because of the three lockdowns we have had. Since routines have changed so has my skincare routine. The main reasons being the everyday use of face masks, putting on harsh hand sanitiser and not forgetting just the stress of lockdown.
I have had to adjust my skincare regime a lot since lockdown started as I have noticed my skin is more sensitive and dry. My hands are drier because of using hand sanitiser more often and my face tends to get acne from wearing a face mask. This year has been a whirlwind for my skin, so adapting my skincare was a must.

My favourite skincare products of 2020
I recently repurchased a second bottle of this because it works so well for me. This cream cleanser is infused with jasmine, retinol, ceramides and a touch of antioxidants.
It has a lovely sweet smell of jasmine which isn’t overpowering, it’s just right. I lightly put warm water on my face then apply this cleanser then following that I wash off with warm water. The whole process is therapeutic.
I am absolute rubbish at remembering to put lip balm on. I am usually a girl who just puts on a gloss and that me out. But that recently changed when I starting using this balm. It has a vitamin c and nourishing vitamin e to keep lips nourished. This balm is a must-have for me now.
The Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner
I am a huge fan of Pixi’s glow tonic but its made with glycolic acid- an AHA (that’s alpha hydroxy acid) which means it chemically exfoliates the skin, so for that reason, I like to only use that a couple of times a week. The rest of the week I like to use The Body Shop’s vitamin E toner.
This is this the step I like to use after cleansing. This has a gentle formula which is enriched with vitamin E so its wonderful for hydrating the skin instead of drying it out. Toning is an important step after cleansing and before you moisturise.
Laves Bright & Lift Facial Elixir
My favourite to use in the morning as my face needs a hit of moisture when I get up. This is a blend of vitamins and omegas which help with hydration and to keep the skin balanced.
A couple of drops of this facial elixir on my face is all I need after toning.

Superdrug Vitamin C Brightening Eye Gel
I have been looking for an inexpensive eye gel that works for me. It took time but I finally found one. I have dark circles under my eyes which makes me look rather tired, so I like to use a caffeinated eye gel to make me look more refreshed, even when I don’t get much sleep.
It contains Kakadu plum ( know for high levels of vitamin c)and goji berry which is known to induce calm, wellbeing and energy.
Antipodes Baptise H20 Ultra-Hydrating Water gel
I have a lot of favourites when it comes to moisturisers but this water gel is one I can use time and time again. This hydrating gel doesn’t irritate my skin and feels soothing on stressful days.
This gel drenches the skin in non-oily hydration. It contains hyaluronic acid and manuka honey with a lovely rose scent. Applying this is so nice because its cooling and you instantly feel the hydration.
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Sun Defense for Face SPF 50 Sunscreen
Once upon a time, Mel didn’t use much skincare and SPF creams were the last thing on her mind. Roll into my mid-twenties when I finally see the reasons why SPF is so important, so everyday its a must, even in winter!
This is an oil-free, PABA-free, SPF 50 lotion which protects your skin from UVA/UVB rays which can cause sunburn, skin cell damage and premature ageing. At first, I wasn’t keen on the smell but it grew on me and the fact it works for me makes it ok for a little inconvenience.

What were your skincare favourites in 2020? Did your skincare routine change a lot like mine?
Until next time
Mel x
Vitamin E is meant to be so good for your skin so I’ll definitely check out your recommendation x
I need to try Pixi again – I had tried one of their SPF milks and loved it! Thank you for sharing x
I always use the same skincare products (from the same brand) for 3+ years now because I have sensitive combination skin and it’s kind a hard to find the one that match with my skin x
These sound like some great products. Lockdown has definitely given us more time to look after our skin and try those products that have been sitting in the cupboard for a while. I really want to try more of the Pixi skincare.
I’m using the Vitamin C brightening gel right now, I love it! It feels so hydrating 🙂 x
I’ve not heard of the exact products mentioned here but I’m a massive fan of some of the pixi bits! They’re always great quality x
I haven’t tried any of these before but I love the sound of the vitamin ones! I discovered Cetaphil in 2020 which has really helped my skin so that would have to be my fave 🙂 x
You’ve tried cool beauty products last year. That’s great! I haven’t try any of these yet. Thank you for sharing.
How have I tried NONE of these?! They all sound amazing though!

These all sound like amazing products! I’m obsessed with Green Planet Beauty at the minute xx
Hi , yes the repeated use of sanitizers and masks are having a definite affect on hands and faces and i think this post of yours for those with sensitive skin helps a lot in overcoming these issues
I dont use eye gel much but I would love to try the superdrug Brightening Eye Gel.
ohh woow…so so many amazing skincare items you had for 2020, a lovely skincare journey sharing for a year. Hmm….I think I wanna do mine too
My skincare routine has definitely changed in the past couple of years. I haven’t tried the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream, but I will have to. I need to get back in the habit of protecting my skin from the sun daily!
I swear by Antipodes for their deeeep skin care. Their H2O water gel is a serious game changer – I went through a tub in a month!
Rosie
My skincare routine has definitely changed recently – well it’s a lot better since lockdown started since I now have the time to actually take care of my skin since working from home. I’ve not used these products before though, and I like giving new stuff a go, so this post is perfect. Thank you!
As much as my mind suffers from the lockdown, as much does my skin. Slowly I’m getting back to my routine – hope it helps….the face and the mind 😉
Great collection of skin care products. I personally love the smell of jasmine so I think I would like it if my wife used the Pixi Retinol Jasmine Cleanser! But my favorite on the list for her would be the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Sun Defense for Face SPF 50 Sunscreen because she is quite fair skinned but I love being outdoors, especially at the beach. So this way, we could enjoy collecting the natural Vitamin D while not turning her into a Lobster!
I have not used half of these products before but I want to give the water gel a try.
These sound like some lovely products. I love my pixi glow clay cleanser!
