As a Muslim revert, Ramadan is still a little hard for me to get used to, it can get more tiring than anything else, which some days gives me a bit of a headache. The first day of Ramadan started in Glasgow on Sunday the 3rd of April. I thought it would be fun to create a new series called Ramadan Diaries!
For me, it’s much harder the first week of fasting but as with anything in life, the following weeks are much easier. You would be so surprised that you get used to it and you start to enjoy it.
Check out my post- Ramadan Diaries – Week One 2022

Start of Ramadan
Ramadan started for us on the 3rd of April 2022. We decided to celebrate it with our family and open our first fast together at my husband’s cousin’s house. We made a variety of dishes including fried eggplant, fruit chaat and one of our favourites, bolognese with cheesy garlic bread.. mmm!
As a family, we made the food together which was lovely as it was a perfect time to catch up on what’s been going on for the past few months. After we prayed Maghrib(prayer) together we had our food as a family and watched a film. It was a lovely day together and I treasure my time with our extended family, it kinda reminded me of the time we had a mehndi!

Following days
The following days were in which I got to take a little time off Ramadan because of my time of the month. As much as I don’t like not fasting, it’s a blessing at the same time. I like to take that time and reflect on all the blessings Allah has given me! It’s also a good time to plan and also to listen to the Quran.
So the first week was a rocky start but I love Ramadan, I hope you enjoyed Ramadan Diaries – Week One 2022. I try to make the most of it. Look out for the next update on the Ramadan diaries for week 2!
Until next time

Some of my colleagues are partaking in Ramadan and I cannot imagine how challenging it must be!
