Happy New Year!!
I am so lucky to be a short drive from Edinburgh. Going on New Year's Eve was a random but very welcome day out for us all. Leaving in the early afternoon seemed a little late for me but it was nice to see Edinburgh with all the Christmas decorations and the lights.
The day was planned out quite well for a last-minute day out. We wanted to see the view of the city, Camera Obscura and the World of Illusions and then go to dinner at the very popular Dishoom.
Camera Obscura and World of Illusions
Honestly, I was super surprised this place was open on New Year's Eve. We went in about 5.30 and it cost the four of us over £80, definitely not cheap for sure but it sure was an experience let me tell you.
They are five floors with 100s of interactive hands-on exhibits. Some parts were more crowded than others and you need to wait but nothing too much.
I don't want to give too much away for people who haven't been before but my favourite attractions here were the 360 view of Edinburgh, the glass maze and the never-ending lights.
Dishoom
We were a little silly and didn't book beforehand, so we did have a 1 hour 30 minutes. We were in the queue outside for 30 minutes but they did give us complimentary hot drinks, I got a mint tea. The time flew as we were enjoying the festivities. We then went to the bar and got some Mocktails before we got a table.
The staff were very friendly here and made us feel welcome. We ordered a little bit of everything. We got the Chicken Berry Britannia Byriani, lamb samosas, and garlic naan and I can't remember so much of what they ordered now but everything tasted amazing, the portions were a little on the small side though in my opinion for the price. I enjoyed my meal and the atmosphere made it so much better.
I am not sure I would be in a rush to come back though because there are so many food places I want to explore in Edinburgh first.
We stayed till about 9pm and then drove home. We nearly forgot about the countdown because we were watching random YouTube videos LOL!
Have you been to Edinburgh before? What are your favourite places there?
Until next time
